Motivational Interviewing: Advanced Practice

Living Healthy Champlain will be hosting a 1.5 day workshop on Advanced Motivational Interviewing skills with Dr. Michael Vallis. Day 1 will run from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm and day 2 will be from 8:30-12:30 pm.

* This workshop is free to attend, a Light Breakfast and Lunch will be provided

Dr. Vallis is a registered clinical psychologist employed at Capital Health, Halifax, and crossappointed to Dalhousie University as Associate Professor in Psychiatry and Adjunct Professor in Psychology, where he practises health psychology. Clinical intervention focuses around behaviour change and adaptation to chronic disease, with a specific focus on motivation, behaviour modification and emotion management.

Objectives of the workshop include:

Day 1

1. A brief refesher of the skills learned in session 1 
2. A case-based approach, in which participants bring specific cases to present. The cases are worked through from the perspective of the behaviour change interventions.

Day 2

Case studies, video review, Motivational Interviewing for specific patient populations, small group practice sessions
